Heaven on earth

Mood:
A-

I had a great morning! Woke up at 8:30 (albeit reluctantly), biked a few blocks to the bus stop and took the #338 downtown to meet up with Jan, Peggy, and Ashley at Whole Foods! Good conversation over breakfast tacos ($1.79) and coffee ($1.59). Gotta love breakfast at WF! Afterwards, Peggy and I rode our bikes home. I’ve never been much of a cyclist, not even in a casual sense, but when I do make the effort to hop on that bici, it’s fun! And Green Heart approved!

Food:
Breakfast: Breakfast taco (spelt tortilla topped with scrambled eggs, a couple of strips of bacon, and cilantro)
Post breakfast: After my bike ride home, I finished off half of a medialuna filled with dulce de leche. Not a good idea, but there it was…looking all desirable with dulce de leche oozing out of its sides.
Lunch: An argula salad with grated carrots and cabbage, chopped cucumbers, and half of a hard-boiled eggs. Lucas and I also shared a square of his famous pizza from last night (see below).

So, this…

Was necessitated by this….

….and this…

Let’s talk about this a little more…

Lucas’s pizzas are, without a doubt, worthy of worship. Last night, he prepared five different types of thin-crust pizzas: arugula, basil & tomato, blue cheese (my favorite!!, onion, and provenzal (olive oil, parsley, garlic). Heaven on earth? Quite possibly.

Fitness:
Will I run or won’t I? If I do, it will be a 35 minute jog.

Green heart:
I took the bus to WF, and rode my bike back home.

Stress

I’m stressed.

When I’m stressed, I often eat fast…and I eat sweets.

Tonight when I got home, I SCARFED down 4 squares of pizza from last night and immediately after, an entire Ghiradelli Chocolate Caramel bar ….and some chocolate florentines.

I didn’t feel like photographing the food, so I didn’t. Usually I make the effort if I’m not in the mood, but tonight, I’m REALLY not in the mood.

But I still wanted to post…and fess up. Part of my path to eating and living well is controlling how emotions tie into food.  I used to be a binge eater, something that I will write more about soon. Anyway, I was a serious binge eater, for many years. I have corrected that disordered eating, but I’m still an emotional eater to some extent. Tonight was a challenge that I didn’t win, but that’s ok. It’s just something else I need to work on.

Now….where’s the chocolate?!?!?!?!

I kid, I kid.

Or do I?

Kidding, kidding. But I might have a cup of hot chocolate. It’s cold and rainy out! What can I say?

Day off!

Food:
Lunch: Not only did I get a gift card to Whole Foods!!!….but my co-workers also treated me to lunch at the restaurant of my choice: Mother’s Cafe & Garden! I LOVE this place. It’s vegetarian/vegan, everything on the menu is fresh and natural, the space is open and inviting with gorgeous, colorful paintings on the wall, and the service is excellent.

I had the Spinach Salad: spinach, carrot, mushrooms, tomato, alfalfa and sunflower sprouts, purple cabbage, cucumber, red onion, black olive, jicama, marinated artichoke hearts, pimento, sliced almonds and parmesan cheese, tossed in their Cashew-Tamari dressing. Soooooo good. Sooo very good. And huge! It took me an hour to finish the salad. No joke.

Post-lunch: Cake back at the office…and later…2 tbs of PB!

Dinner: My younger sisters, Liz and Jill, came over to celebrate my b-day….Lucas made his famous pizzas!

First….arugula…

..then…blue cheese (my favorite!)….

…and for the grand finale…tomatoes & provenzal (olive oil, garlic, parsley)..

Dessert: I had my cake, and I ate it, too. Twice. Thrice. With ice cream.

Can’t go to bed…too full to lay down……!!

Me, that’s for sure. It’s 10:34 and I’m zonked. I can barely keep my eyes open to write this post. Trust me, once I finish I am hitting the hay. So zzzzzzleeeepy.

Food:
Afternoon snacks: A couple of dried dates and 2 tbs of peanut butter straight from the jar. How I love PB.
Dinner: 1 whole margherita pizza from Mandola’s. Sooooo good. The crust is  paper thin and the cheese is BARELY existent…I have to justify my whole pizza somehow!!!

Fitness:
60 minutes of toning exercises at home

Good night!

Oh, and I almost forgot—
Dessert: 1 serving of orange-flavored chocolate. Really good. I forget the brand. Got it at Whole Foods. Have you been to their chocolate section? Pretty darn great…..Hee, hee. One serving makes it sound so small….in reality, 1 serving size is half the bar:)

Good afternoon

Food:
Lunch: My boss is retiring at the end of the week, so we took him out for a lunchtime celebration. We dined at Mandola’s, an awesome Italian place that has AMAZING pizza.

But I didn’t have pizza. 😦

I exercised some rare self-control since I know I’m eating pizza tonight while watching THE GAME.

Instead, I had boring ol’ minestrone soup and a piece of butter-soaked bread. The soup was rather blah.

6 hours and 47 minutes until kick-off!

I love pizza

Some friends invited us over for dinner and for a chance to talk to us about our experiences with a naturopath that we visited in Spain a couple of months ago. Their little boy is having some health issues, and being the good parents that they are, they are exploring all health care options and talking to people they know for feedback based on personal experiences.  I hope we were of help!

Food:
Dinner: Pizza! Our friend Joe made some delicioso pizzas: one with tomato slices and pesto and one with pesto and chicken. I had two slices of the veggie, and 1/2 slice of the chicken. They were super good–I could have inhaled a whole pizza! Plus, 2 glasses of red wine.
Dessert: 3 Central Market Oven Baked Chocolate Chip Cookies. When an adorable 4 year old is offering you cookies, how can you say no? Yeah. I’ll definitely blame it on a cute kid.

Fitness:
10K (6.2 miles) at Town Lake.

Finishing up some peppermint tea. Good night!
