Squeaky Clean

You know that feeling of taking a shower after 3 days of camping with, well, no shower? You experience the “ahhhh” moment. You are fresh! You are clean! You are new!

Well, after 4 days of artificial this and genetically modified that, after cups of sugar and mounds of chocolate, I have finally experience my “ahhhhh” meal moment: a simple, home-cooked meal of entirely organic, unprocessed foods. My system is deeply thanking me while at the same time scolding me for having put it through such nutritional torture. (Call me sadistic; I kind of enjoyed that torture!)

Mood:
Hmmm. Nutritionally satisfied. And…yea! I’m about to indulge in a candle-lit, pink bubble bath. What a fine way to end the day.

Food:
Dinner: A big ol’ salad of mixed greens, chopped apple, carrots, and sunflower seeds, followed by a plate of oven-roasted potatoes and onions, prepared with olive oil (not organic) and kosher salt (not organic).

Fitness:
Oh, did I ever battle back and forth with myself today. I wanted to work out, really I did, but….but….Myself and I finally reached a compromise: an at home workout of toning exercises, with a focus on abs, core, quads, glutes, hamstrings, and hip flexors. 60 minutes.

Green heart:
Did you see the black heart from yesterday’s post? Well…I have gone and totally redeemed myself! I gathered a plastic bag of would-be garbage from my mom’s kitchen this morning and took it home to Austin to recycle. Glass jars, a wine bottle, plastic bottles, soda cans saved from the landfill!

Hungry Jack

Mood:
Oh man am I hungry. It’s three o’clock…..no scratch that, it’s 3:20 and I am just now eating lunch. Let’s label the level of my hunger as “bulldozer”—I am shoveling through this food. Better take a breather or I might have a tummy ache soon. So here is lunch:

Food:
Organic brown rice and a vegetable stir fry (carrots and broccoli). Yummy and healthy! Super easy to make, too…um, although I didn’t make it. (shhhhhh! It was Lucas).

Confession:
Sure, I would love to tell you that I’m dining mid-afternoon because I’ve been overloaded with work. But I simply wasn’t hungry at noon, and then I had to go to the gym, and well now look at the time! I’m ALWAYS hungry by noon. What gives? The realĀ blame belongs to a) my boss’s holiday gift and b) my penchant for all things chocolate….ok, all things sweet. I had three Ferrero Rochers just a few hours after breakfast. I wasn’t remotely hungry….but they were on my desk. Staring at me. What’s a girl to do?

Fitness:
Weights at gym=45 minutes. They got lots of new equipment! Not machines, but fun stuff like elastic bands and cowbells. I used the cowbells for my lunges. They are heavy.

Green heart:
Hooray! My employer has posted a reminder on the college’s website about the FREE bus pass program that start in January! I ride the bus to/from work whenever I don’t absolutely need to take the car, which isĀ 3-4 times a week, and I almost always buy a monthly pass. Now it will be free! Naturally I’m thrilled at the idea of pocketing an extra $28 a month, but even more excited to see if this pilot program will result in more students, faculty, and staff taking the bus to campus instead of driving. Fingers are crossed.
