My New Year’s Resolution of adopting the 9:00-5:00 sleep schedule has fallen by the wayside. I think it’s been about two weeks since I’ve been early to bed, early to rise. Last night it was midnight by the time I turned out the lights….I was up at 6:38…… But I’m not giving up! I really want 9 to 5!

Breakfast: Fresh juice (5 carrots, 1/2 grapefruit, 1 green apple). I’ll never put grapefruit in my juice again. It made the drink quite bitter!…….Later, a bowl of Bear Naked Granola with soymilk (part of which I managed to spill all over the car on my way to the bus stop).

Still a lot of milk left though!

Mostly sunny

Working towards the 9 pm – 5 am sleeping schedule has been going pretty well overall. Last night I was in bed by 10:00 and asleep soon after.  I set the alarm for 6:00, but I was not ready to wake up when 6:00 came around. Following a series of snooze-hitting and alarm-resetting, I finally rose at 6:55. But that’s ok–after my measly four hours of sleep yesterday, I think my body needed the extra time.

Breakfast: a) Lucas made me a juice from carrots, celery, apple, lemon, and ginger.
b) I made some oatmeal to take to work (I put it in a travel mug, which did a great job of keeping it warm). The oatmeal had about a cup of pulp leftover from the juicing process.  The pulp alone doesn’t have any taste, but it’s pure fiber, which is good. I mixed that in with the 1/3 cup (dry)  of steel cut oats, 2 tbs (dry) of rolled oats, 2 tbs of Ezekiel Original, agave nectar, and cinnamon. I like the Carrot Cake Oatmeal more, but this was good, too.

What’s up with this warm weather in January? Oh, that’s right. This is Texas.

Home again

I’m in Austin again, back from 4 days of eating, laughing, lounging, talking, and a whole lot of doing glorious nothing. Isn’t that just the best sometimes? Ooohh, and I have a whole ‘nother week of no work! I’m so excited! And— Lucas is on board with adapting the 9-5 sleep schedule. We’re going to try to start it this week!

Breakfast: steel cut oats with dried cranberries, dried currants, carob chips, agave nectar, soymilk. I was excited because my dad let me make him a bowl! I offered after I saw him pulling a packet of microwave oatmeal from the cupboard! 🙂

Lunch: Leftover quibebe

Dessert: 4 pieces of assorted chocolates

Going to have a cup of tea and make a menu for the week and the grocery shopping list!

Tree Lights

I just sat with my hands poised over the keys, fingers absolutely still. No words came to me for the above title, as if it matters. But really, how hard is it to title a post? Why did I freeze like a deer in the highlights? I stared at the Christmas tree into the bright of the white lights that are woven through it’s branches. Nothing. Ham? Ham sandwich? Then…eureka! Tree Lights! So there you go. : )

An eventful Friday night. That’s to be read with sarcasm, in case you didn’t relate it to the above, wink wink.

Ouch, this is painful. For you. Let’s do this and be done with it.

Groggy. A few tears were shed this evening, followed by me splayed out on the couch. Followed by dozing off. Followed by an hour and a half nap. I woke up a bit before 8:00. Oh, I am definitely Zombie right now.

Ran 4.5 miles. With the sun setting at 5:30, it’s hard to get a run in after work. The treadmill at the gym is always an option, but my gym becomes a hot, humid, smelly zoo between the hours of 5:00 and 8:00 pm. Who wants in on that? Not me. So once or twice a week I will pack a bag with running clothes and shoes, leaving most of my other things behind at home (i.e. cell phone, wallet) so I can run home w/out any baggage. It’s a nice run, with the exception of the couple of fast food joints that I have to pass that render me temporarily suffocated with their greasy, chemical smells of fried fish and chinese food.

Early evening snack: a few teensy weensy bites of a deliciously rich and chocolatey brownie, a taste of a blueberry muffin, and half of a tiny cookie, all leftover treats that Lucas had brought from his holiday party at work.

After my shower*, I had a bowl of vegetarian chili, also a leftover from the party. It had a nice variety of beans as well as some baby carrots, muy rico (that means delicious in Argentina). And after my unexpected nap, I had a ham sandwich with cheese and tomato slices.

Green heart:
*Black heart. I am bad, bad, bad at wasting water and energy in the shower. I LOVE a long, hot shower. All of my showers are long, hot showers. Green heart? Oh, how the mighty have fallen/are falling!! Maybe short, cold showers can be added to my list of New Year’s resolutions? What’s that? The list is full? There is a waiting list for the list? Whew…

Wednesday…where are you?

Is Wednesday here yet? No? Still Tuesday? Practically the start of the week. Darn it. I’m not sure what funny business I’m trying to pull with my body clock, but I’ve been tinkering too much with its cogs and gears it seems. My sleep schedule is all out of wack, I’ve been going to bed late, waking up groggy. Feeling like a zombie at work, napping odd hours in the early evening. This is no good! A good night’s sleep is a miracle worker. I need a miracle. Stat.

Today wasn’t all bad though. I walked home from work, 4.5 miles in the lovely cold, listening to NPR on my old school MP3 player. My dear husband had a delicious “merienda” (afternoon snack) waiting for me when I walked through the door. It’s the little things in life–how great is it to come home to toasted homemade bread, honey, and hot mate (hot mate as in the hot herbal drink, not hot mate as in hot hubby, ok? Not that hubby isn’t a cutie pie). Ahh, life can be sweet.Yerba MateHot Mate

I’ve been thinking about my new year’s resolutions. When have I ever kept my new year’s resolutions? Never. You? Well, we’re not alone. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try for 2010! Amongst my resolutions: adopt a 9:00 to 5:00 schedule. PM to AM baby. I really, really, really want to do this. I have never been a nightowl; I just don’t function well after 10:00 pm! Therefore, it’s only logical that I hit the hay at 9:00 pm. And I do love the mornings after a night of good sleep. I can totally do up and at ’em. Yea! Let’s do it!

But not tonight. It’s not 2010 yet. I’ve got stuff to do. Like baking holiday goodies for my grade A co-workers. Sweets for the sweet.

Zombie a.m./p.m.

Breakfast: 2 slices of Rudy’s Organic Whole Grain toast with Nut’n Better Crunchy Organic Peanut Butter and homemade raspberry jam
Lunch: 4 beef empanadas…devoured before 11:00 am!
Snacky: Apple; toasted homemade white bread with locally made honey
Dinner: Thinking about juicing some fruits or veggies..keeping it light

Green Heart:
Woah, Nelly, was I in a tizzy when I found the cleaning lady at work had cleaned the drying rack….um…how dare she? Wait, let me finish. The items in the rack were M.I.A. Included in the missing: my cutting board, plate, and tupperware–gone. Months ago, I had found dishes that I had left to soak in the sink thrown away in the trash can. In the trash! Do you know what that does to someone who goes out of their way to reduce, reuse, recycle? It’s heartbreaking. And infuriating. And frustrating. So this morning, I sent an e-mail to the manager of the campus where I work, mentioning what had happened. Luckily I did a second look-through in the kitchen and found the aforementioned items in a drawer. Whew. I had already been drafting my second e-mail to the campus manager in my head “You can give designated parking spaces to people with “green” cars and yet no one protects the landfills from my discarded tupperware?” Hee hee, soo happy that I had that second look-through. And of course, so happy my things didn’t go to sit in a landfill for thousands of years.
