Food:
Breakfast: I made a variation of carrot cake oatmeal. It was lacking in the flavor department this morning! Maybe it was the turbinado sugar that I used instead of the agave nectar (it wasn’t as sweet today) or a watery carrot? Can carrots be watery? Too much soymilk? As far as oatmeal goes, it left something to be desired. Oh, the tragedy!

I ate breakfast on our balcony this morning. I love the balcony. Even though we live in a condo, it’s like having our own private backyard. In the Spring, when the trees are green with thousands of tiny leaves, it feels like we live in a treehouse. You can literally reach out and grab a branch, and the leaves are so thick you can’t see the backyards of the houses that are on the other side of the creek below.

But we are looking for a change and some more space, and will be leaving our dear little place:

I’m super excited though about a potential home we have found! It’s not a house, per se, it’s a duplex that’s for rent in a great neighborhood just north of the UT campus. We can walk to grocery stores, restaurants, coffee shops, ride bikes in the nearby trendy Hyde Park, hop on the bus and be downtown in 10 minutes. We haven’t signed a lease yet, so nothing is set in stone as we are still trying to sort out a few things with the landlord, but the idea of living there is exciting.

This all brings me to my beef about Craigslist etiquette, or lack thereof. We are trying to rent out the unit where we live currently, so we posted an ad on Craigslist. We have posted ads on Craigslist plenty of times before to sell this or that, and it never ceases to amaze me (or tick me off!) that people lack the basic courtesy of communication. You know, returning an email? Canceling with a phone call if there is a change of plans? Just common decency, not a lot to ask. We had a guy write to us about the condo, saying he was very interested and wanted to see the apartment the next day. We wrote back and said that would be fine. What time? No answer. Ok. We prep the house later that day, make plans around the fact that he might be coming by, etc. Still no answer. We wait a day or so, and write back to say we have posted a link of pictures if indeed he is still interested. No answer….I mean, really. Just send us an email that says “Hey, I’ve changed my mind, thanks anyway!” It’s not difficult. Not at all!

So, my PSA to you: be courteous to your fellow Craigslisters, be you buying, selling, casual encountering, whatever. It’s the right thing to do. 🙂

Whew!

How about some breakfast?

Mood:
Mostly sunny

Working towards the 9 pm – 5 am sleeping schedule has been going pretty well overall. Last night I was in bed by 10:00 and asleep soon after.  I set the alarm for 6:00, but I was not ready to wake up when 6:00 came around. Following a series of snooze-hitting and alarm-resetting, I finally rose at 6:55. But that’s ok–after my measly four hours of sleep yesterday, I think my body needed the extra time.

Food:
Breakfast: a) Lucas made me a juice from carrots, celery, apple, lemon, and ginger.
b) I made some oatmeal to take to work (I put it in a travel mug, which did a great job of keeping it warm). The oatmeal had about a cup of pulp leftover from the juicing process.  The pulp alone doesn’t have any taste, but it’s pure fiber, which is good. I mixed that in with the 1/3 cup (dry)  of steel cut oats, 2 tbs (dry) of rolled oats, 2 tbs of Ezekiel Original, agave nectar, and cinnamon. I like the Carrot Cake Oatmeal more, but this was good, too.

What’s up with this warm weather in January? Oh, that’s right. This is Texas.

4 hours of sleep, and feeling surprisingly ok. I hope I don’t hit the wall this afternoon.

My mind was racing last night, and I didn’t fall asleep until after 1:00. Then I woke up at 5:00 with the same thoughts again. Out of bed at 5:30.

Food:
Breakfast: Part 1: Fresh juice made from 3 medium carrots, 2 medium oranges, 1 large apple
Part 2: 1 cup of Fage 0% Greek Yogurt with 1 tbs of agave nectar and 2 tbs of Ezekiel Original

It’s nice to start off the work week on Tuesday!

In bed by 10 last night, and up at 5:30! This time, the 5:30 rise was on purpose.
-baked cookies for a guy that does my oil change for free
-drank some peppermint tea
-made a variation of carrot cake oatmeal for Lucas and me

Let me tell you. Baking in the morning is a good idea of you have a tendency to sneak spoonfuls of cake batter or cookie dough or frosting. I’ll admit to a spoonful of dough this morning, but that was it! (Baby steps, baby steps) There’s not a real desire to sample the fare after you’ve practically just rolled out of bed.

Food:
Breakfast: A variation of carrot cake oatmeal (click on above link for recipe). If you’re not a fan of vegetables, this is a great way to sneak in some of your daily value!

Have a good morning, and thanks for reading.

Good

My sleeping plan—so far, so good! I was in bed at 9:45 last night, lights out at 10:00….some idiot texted Lucas this morning at 5:30, so that woke us both up. But that’s cool (thanks, idiot!); it was just the push I needed!

A productive morning at home! I:
-did a load of laundry
-wrote in my “morning pages” for 15 minutes
-read “Animal, Vegetable, Miracle” for 15 minutes
-took a quick shower-
-made fresh juice for Lucas and me
-got ready for work

I still need to plan a little better—after 7:00 hits I’m rush, rush, rush. But I’m on the right track to my 9pm-5am!

Food:
Breakfast a) orange and carrot juice with a dash of ginger (4 carrots, 3 oranges, a small piece of fresh ginger)
b) later….whole grain toast with peanut butter and agave nectar & peppermint tea

Those oranges look huge! They were actually rather small oranges. Thought I’d just mention it!

Later today: work run home, bake, work on blog site updates…!

Don’t Judge My Oatmeal

Mood:
Sigh. I did so well by getting into bed by 10:00 and falling asleep shortly after. Why did I have to wake up at 3:00 am and stay awake forever? I did manage to get up at 6:15, but it was something of a struggle. I feel fine aight, but not exactly refreshed.

As you may remember, I’m working towards a 9:00 pm – 5:00 am sleeping schedule. I was delighted to find that the writer of one of the blogs I follow (Oh She Glows) is doing the same, and she posted some great tips about it yesterday. See here and here.

Food:
Breakfast: I made Carrot Cake Oatmeal. I changed up the recipe ever so slightly this time by using 1 whole carrot and an extra tbs of Ezekiel Original. Additionally, I didn’t add any soymilk, vanilla, or walnuts.

Ok. I’m going to (delicately) state the obvious. This isn’t the most appetizing-looking oatmeal, now is it.  But you wouldn’t judge a book by its cover, would you? Of course not! So don’t go judging my oatmeal by its looks….it’s actually quite delicious and super filling. Promise.
